Review of Windows Vista Home Basic

We're going to keep this review of Windows Vista Home Basic short and sweet. If your computing needs are modest, such as email, browsing the internet, viewing photos etc then this may be the edition for you.
Although there's very little on offer here which is not already available in Windows XP you will appreciate the new desktop search function which enable you to organise and search your files in whatever way suits you.
Sadly the attractive aero "glass" interface trademark feature of the Vista range is absent from this entry-level offering, but this may help you avoid a hardware upgrade as minimum system memory for Vista Home Basic, at 512 MB is only half that of the other editions.
On balance, if you're ready for a new PC, have limited computing needs and limited budget this option is worth considering but upgrading from your existing Window XP is not really worth the bother or expense.
Our verdict .. A bit like Windows XP Home with a new hairdo. If you're happy with XP we can't see any compelling reason to change.
